Caterina Minthe of Style.com Arabia described the mainly neutral collection of black and beige hijabs and abayas as "sheer georgette and satin weave charmeuse fabrics" with "copious lace details along hems."

But some people in the modest fashion world have responded to the line with reservation.

Maahum Chaudhry, co-founder of the fashion site Libaas, welcomed the new line saying it is "reaffirming" to have such a major fashion house acknowledge more modest tastes.

But she told BuzzFeed News that she believes "modesty is about more than just what you wear."

In a blog, Libaas described a new framework of modesty that "unites physical humility with intentional consumption." That includes buying clothes at fair prices to workers, many of whom work in dangerous factories located in Muslim countries.

"I appreciate [the line]," she said. "I think that they are acknowledging us is nice. But I know they're not just doing to show solidarity with the Muslim community. It's a business move and it's a smart business move."

Dolce & Gabbana did not immediately respond to BuzzFeed News' request for comment.
