BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (WPMI) “I’ve never been away from them during a storm,” said Bayou La Batre Resident, Christi Jones.
It’s bad enough that Jones is 4300 miles away from her son, her daughter-in-law, Krystal Jones is stationed at an Air Force Base in Honolulu. Now she has to deal with knowing they’re living in the midst of two named storms.
And even though Hurricane Julio is expected to veer slightly north of Hawaii, it doesn’t keep her from doing what mothers do best, worry.

“It’s just hard because if I knew they were somewhere they could leave I wouldn’t worry. Right now he’s on an island and there’s nowhere to go,” said Jones.

Her son, Technical Sgt. Nick Jones and his wife Krystal are stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu.
They grew up on the Gulf Coast. In fact, they lost their Bayou La Batre home during Hurricane Katrina.
Still, as Krystal Jones explained over the phone, two storms back to back is enough to make even the well prepared feel uneasy.

“It’s intimidating because we can’t just drive to a different state to camp out. We can just drive to slightly higher ground and cross our fingers that it passes,” said Krystal Jones, “Julio is way more intimidating then Iselle because Iselle was already a tropical storm before it hit us.” Krystal Jones said.

“I’m a mom and I worry. But I just put faith in what I’ve taught them to do. Because that’s what we do here,” said Christi Jones.

The family said, where they are in Hawaii, Tropical Storm Iselle only caused minor damage. They’re just hoping Hurricane Julio misses them completely, as it is forecasted to do. Meanwhile, they’re enjoying a typical Gulf Coast fashion hurricane party.
